At CHCCS, a Multilingual Learner (MLL) teacher's goal is to provide students with the help, counsel, and learning experience they need to make progress toward educational goals established, to create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.
MLL teachers instruct students whose dominant language is a language other than English. The goal is to teach the NC English Language Proficiency Standard Course of Study. MLL teachers instruct English language learners to read, speak, listen, and write English, so they can achieve grade level proficiency in all academic areas. MLL teachers must be highly knowledgeable in the content and structure of the English language as well as the methodology for teaching English to non-native speakers.
