We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Orthopedic Billing Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. - Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for orthopedic procedures and diagnoses
- Ensure accurate DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignments to facilitate proper reimbursement processes
- Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients
- Maintain detailed medical records and billing documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information, insurance details, and coding accuracy
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and managing collections for outstanding balances
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, preferably within an orthopedic or specialized medical setting
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to orthopedics, and healthcare coding standards including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and ICD coding systems
- Familiarity with Athena EMR and EHR systems used for medical records management and billing processes
- Excellent understanding of medical collection procedures and patient account management
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and assign appropriate codes efficiently
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Prior experience with medical office operations is preferred but not required
