Junior Controller
Real Estate | Vertically Integrated Platform
Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Controller to join our accounting team and grow within a dynamic, vertically integrated real estate platform. This role spans active development projects, stabilized multifamily and hospitality assets, and family office entities.
As Junior Controller, you will work closely with senior leadership to support the integrity of the financial record across all entities, contribute to the monthly close process, and help produce reporting that ownership, investors, lenders, and advisors rely on to make important decisions.
This is a hands-on role well suited to someone with a foundation in real estate accounting who is eager to deepen their expertise across a complex, multi-entity portfolio. You will gain direct exposure to development accounting, institutional reporting, and family office operations — with a clear path to grow into a senior leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities, development projects, and stabilized assets — ensuring financials are completed accurately and on time
- Assist in preparing internal financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses at both the asset and consolidated platform level
- Help produce investor reporting packages, capital account schedules, and waterfall calculations for partnership and joint venture entities
- Contribute to maintaining the consolidated financial picture across ownership structures, including intercompany eliminations and family office-level reporting
Property & Lease Accounting
- Support property-level accounting across the stabilized portfolio including rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease abstractions
- Apply ASC 842 lease accounting standards across commercial, residential, and hospitality assets under the guidance of senior staff
- Assist in reviewing property-level financial packages prior to distribution to ownership and asset management
- Collaborate with property managers and asset managers to ensure operating results are accurately captured and anomalies are identified and resolved promptly
Development & Construction Accounting
- Support accounting for active development projects, including job costing, hard and soft cost tracking, and draw request preparation and reconciliation
- Assist with lender draw packages, construction loan compliance reporting, and cost-to-complete analyses in coordination with the development and project management teams
- Help track capitalized costs, interest carry, and development fee recognition in accordance with GAAP and applicable real estate accounting standards
- Work with Procore for project cost data and support its integration with Sage Intacct for financial reporting and GL posting
Treasury, Cash Management & Internal Controls
- Assist in monitoring cash flow across operating, reserve, and escrow accounts to help maintain platform-wide liquidity visibility
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and GL functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and appropriate segregation of duties
- Help maintain and apply accounting policies and internal controls in line with institutional and family office governance requirements
- Assist in tracking debt covenant compliance across financed assets and flagging potential issues to senior leadership
Tax, Audit & Compliance
- Support annual audit preparation and serve as a resource for external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel under senior supervision
- Assist with federal, state, and local tax compliance across all entities, including partnership returns, 1099 filings, and estimated payment schedules
- Help support tax planning initiatives such as 1031 exchanges, cost segregation studies, opportunity zone compliance, and depreciation strategy
- Ensure financial records and documentation are organized, audit-ready, and maintained in accordance with company retention policies
Systems & Process Involvement
- Work within Sage Intacct and Procore, supporting chart of accounts maintenance, cost code accuracy, and reporting hierarchy integrity
- Contribute to annual budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting cycles across the operating portfolio and development pipeline
- Identify opportunities for process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce close cycle time, and improve reporting quality
- Collaborate across departments — including asset management, development, and property management — to support accurate and timely financial reporting
