Job Purpose
Learn to operate casing-in machines through training from Casing-In Operator Trainers. Assist in trimming and casing-in book blocks safely and efficiently.
Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities
- Obtain and interpret job orders.
- Input job data into casing-in unit computer.
- Set up casing-in machine per specifications.
- Feed cases, paper, and glue into machine as required.
- Complete production logs, reports, and paperwork.
- Inspect materials and finished products for quality.
- Assist with crew assignments, setup, and closeout procedures.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and clean machine areas.
- Follow trainer guidance.
- Assist jacket operators and maintenance during troubleshooting.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read rulers, calculators, and perform basic math.
- Mechanical and machine operating aptitude.
- Basic computer literacy.
Interpersonal Skills
- Willingness to learn and work with a team.
- Strong attention to detail and safety.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in printing, manufacturing, or mechanical operations preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in bindery or bookbinding operations, specifically casing-in or hardcover book production preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Standing: ~80% (operating and monitoring equipment, directing crew members).
- Walking: ~15% (moving between workstations and staging areas).
- Lifting: Up to 50 lbs. (handling books, glue containers, paper, or cases).
- Reaching/Bending: ~25% (loading/unloading materials, performing maintenance, and inspecting quality).
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent hand use for adjusting machines, handling materials, and performing quality checks.
Shift Availability
Night Shift - 7:00pm - 7:00am
