Position Title: Medical Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists physicians in providing quality medical care in a customer service oriented environment. The position involves performing various preparatory duties for routine patient visits and assisting in routine minor procedures. As a member of a clinical team environment, the position requires effective communication and interpersonal skills. The employee will be at times required to function in a high volume environment, meeting the demands of a large body of patients in cooperation with other office members. All patient interaction must be performed meeting the organization’s commitment to quality medical care and customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works collaboratively with the physicians, nurses, and other staff in the deliverance of patient care in accordance with the practice’s nursing standards.
2. Provides service to a varied population, including the infant-toddler, pediatric, adolescent and young adult.
3. Utilizes the nursing process in delivering quality patient care.
4. Engage with patients in exam rooms and determines nature of medical problem. If sick visit, determines chief complaint and change in patient condition. If for physical exam, performs and documents varying exam prep duties: Wgt., Hgt., Bp., Hgb., vision test, and hearing test if required.
5. Performs various testing procedures as ordered by the physician to assess patient condition: Ua, Hgb, Strep test, etc.
6. Assists providers with minor procedures as required: suture removal, ear lavage, pap smears, caths, etc.
7. Maintains appearance and organization of work environment. Maintain clean, organized, well-stocked exam rooms and nurse’s stations, communicating restocking needs to appropriate personnel when needed.
8. Prepare varying forms of patients (e.g. school/employment good health forms, etc.).
9. Possess knowledge of appropriate action in medical emergency situations with the ability to make quick decisions employing sound judgment.
10. Observes policies and procedures related to Quality Assistance, Continued Quality Improvement, Safety, Patient Confidentiality, Infection Control and Environmental Control Programs. This includes OSHA and HIPPA.
11. Participates in special projects, studies and other related duties as assigned by Nurse Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional lifting of boxes of supplies or materials, not over 30 pounds.
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of accredited medical assistant program and certified in CPR. Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills to successfully meet the demands of our patient body.
Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
