Overview
We are seeking an energetic and motivated College & Careers Counselor to guide students through their educational and career pathways. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and directing programs and activities to assist High School students with college and career planning including academic preparation for college, meeting both graduation and college acceptance requirements, college searches, school and financial aid application, scholarship searches, testing, recommendations, transition to college, and exploration of various career pathways.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direction and support for students. This involves responsible planning, day-to-day management, and monitoring the PVS College Preparatory and Graduation Program; act as a liaison between the program and other entities involved in the early college education field and explore new and/or innovative directions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assisting students in the college decision-making, application, and financial aid process, individually and in small group and classroom sessions.
- Maintaining the student activity information files and college application files for High School students.
- Complete counselor letters of recommendation, Secondary School Reports, and submit transcripts for students applying to colleges and scholarship programs.
- Coordinate and advise students on the letter of recommendation writing and uploading process.
- Have the knowledge to properly advise and edit college essays/personal statements.
- Coordination and arrangement of visits to PVS by college and university representatives.
- Coordination of students’ visits to colleges.
- Sending regular college updates to parents and students.
- Attend and present one evening night for freshman families, one evening night for sophomores families, two evening nights for junior families, and three evenings for senior families (two college nights and a financial aid night.)
- Compiling and maintenance of college application, admission, and financial aid award statistics for each graduating class.
- Attending counselor conferences, workshops, breakfasts, college fairs, and other events relating to assisting students with college information and updates.
- Be available in the summer to create and present a College Boot Camp for juniors and College Application Workshops for seniors.
- Have the knowledge to properly advise and edit college essays/personal statements.
- Understand how to assist athletes applying to NCAA and NAIA school and all eligibility requirements.
- Meet individually with each junior second semester to create a college plan.
- Answer college and career related questions from students and families in grades 9-12 and consult with academic counselors on college/career related topics.
- Provide the Principal with periodic updates on student progress and achievements.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree. Master's Degree preferred in Curriculum and Instruction and/or Administrative & Supervision (Educational Leadership) and requires five (5) years of demonstrated successful teaching experience; requires valid Tennessee Teacher's Certificate and meet the definition of "highly qualified".
Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
