Schedule: Full-Time | Standard Business Hours
Industry: Financial Services / Mortgage Technology
Candidates Considered: USC or GC Holder
Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Business Process Engineer – Platform Specifications Analyst to support a major mortgage technology transformation initiative. This individual will sit within the Data & Foundation Platform team and work closely with engineering, architecture, product, QA, and operations.
This is not a traditional Business Analyst or QA role focused primarily on gathering requirements. The Business Process Engineer will serve as a force multiplier for engineering , creating precise, structured, and testable specifications that can be consumed directly by both AI development agents and human engineers .
The ideal candidate understands how the quality and structure of specifications directly influence the quality of AI-generated code. They will help determine how business requirements, user journeys, workflows, data contracts, and prompts should be structured so AI agents and engineers can build solutions with minimal additional clarification.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed, structured, and engineering-ready specifications that can be consumed by both AI agents and human developers.
- Use Confluence and related documentation tools to create and maintain technical specifications, user journeys, workflows, business rules, and testable requirements.
- Translate business objectives into specifications that clearly communicate what needs to be built, how it should behave, and how it can be validated .
- Define and document APIs, data contracts, JSON schemas, information patterns, system interactions, and business workflows .
- Understand how an AI coding agent will interpret requirements and structure specifications accordingly to improve the quality of generated code.
- Help develop effective prompts and workflows for AI-assisted software development , translating requirements into inputs AI agents can successfully build from.
- Incorporate QA-embedded thinking throughout the specification process by identifying test scenarios, acceptance criteria, edge cases, validation requirements, and expected system behaviors.
- Maintain awareness of the complete development lifecycle, ensuring specifications support AI-assisted delivery from initial business objective through development and testing .
- Leverage prototyping tools such as Retool or similar platforms to rapidly visualize workflows and concepts across product and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with product teams, engineers, architects, QA, operations, and AI development tools to refine specifications and prototypes.
- Reduce unnecessary engineering meetings and clarification cycles by ensuring documentation is precise, complete, structured, and actionable .
- Identify gaps, ambiguity, dependencies, and potential implementation issues before development begins.
- Continuously improve specification and documentation practices based on feedback from engineers and the performance of AI-generated outputs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience as a Systems Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Business Process Engineer, Platform Analyst, or similar technical role .
- Demonstrated experience crafting detailed specifications that engineers can directly use to develop software .
- Strong experience with Confluence or similar specification/documentation platforms.
- Ability to develop user journeys, workflows, acceptance criteria, testable requirements, and structured technical specifications .
- Strong understanding of APIs, data contracts, JSON schemas, integrations, and structured data patterns .
- Experience working closely with software engineers and architects throughout the development lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of QA and testing principles , with the ability to embed testability into specifications from the beginning.
- Experience or strong familiarity with AI-assisted software development, AI coding agents, prompt engineering, or AI development tools .
- Understanding of how specifications and prompts influence the quality of AI-generated code and workflows .
- Exceptional written communication skills with an ability to eliminate ambiguity and translate complex concepts into actionable documentation.
- Experience with prototyping tools such as Retool or similar platforms is highly desired.
Attitude & Working Style
A self-starter and go-getter mentality is a must-have for this role . The team is looking for someone who proactively identifies what needs to be done rather than waiting for detailed direction or assignments.
The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, comfortable working through ambiguity, and motivated to continuously improve how product and engineering teams operate. They should naturally look for gaps, ask thoughtful questions, seek out opportunities to contribute, and take ownership of moving work forward.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within financial services, mortgage, lending, or mortgage technology transformation programs .
- Experience supporting large-scale platform modernization initiatives.
- Hands-on experience using AI agents or AI-assisted development tools to generate software from specifications and prompts .
- Experience developing or optimizing prompts used by AI agents to build application workflows.
- Experience with rapid prototyping tools and AI-enabled product development.
- Experience working across teams consisting of full-time employees, contractors, and offshore resources.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate understands that specifications are no longer simply documentation—they can become direct inputs into the software development process . This person can take a business objective, understand the user journey and underlying systems and data, anticipate testing requirements, and create a specification detailed enough for an engineer or AI agent to begin building without repeated clarification.
They combine strong business and systems analysis skills with QA-embedded thinking, AI-assisted development awareness, and an exceptionally proactive working style . They understand not only what needs to be built, but also how an AI agent will consume the requirements, what prompts will produce the desired workflow, and how the resulting solution should be tested and validated .
