JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The School Security Aide is directly supervised by the Chief of School Security and is responsible for carrying out program under direction of Chief of School Security or school principal, designed to prevent serious and sensitive problems that affect safety in schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Keeps order in hallways, lavatories, auditorium, cafeteria, and recreation areas during lunch periods.
2. Assists in attempting to prevent disturbances and improper behavior of students.
3. Breaks up fights and or other serious infractions of the school and criminal code.
4. Notifies appropriate authorities of crisis situations by dialing 911, contacting site based officer, mobile officer or Chief of School Security.
5. Recovers and secures evidence for police officers as needed.
6. Inspects lavatories regularly for security violations.
7. Attempts to prevent damage to school property and protect against physical violence.
8. Monitors and secures outside grounds.
9. Cooperates with administrative staff in organizing visitor control.
10. Checks in with principal upon arrival and departure.
11. Participates in security training.
12. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department’s or school’s goals and objectives and the District’s mission and Superintendent’s Priority Goals.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED (General Education Development)
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Prior security experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
· Valid drivers license required.
· Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.

This position requires individuals to live in the territorial boundaries of the School District of Pittsburgh. If hired for this position you will be required to establish residence within three calendar months of your hire date with Pittsburgh Public Schools.
