Latitude is seeking an experienced Consumer Lending Attorney to support a financial institution on an interim, flexible basis. This role will begin part-time, with the ability to ramp up to full-time as business needs require.
The ideal candidate has substantial experience advising financial institutions on consumer lending products and related federal and state regulatory requirements. This attorney should be highly responsive, an excellent communicator, and comfortable working independently while staying closely connected with internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide practical, business-oriented advice in a highly regulated environment and be able to communicate complex legal issues clearly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities

Advise the business on legal and regulatory matters relating to consumer lending products and services.

Provide guidance on applicable federal and state consumer financial services laws and regulations, including applicable lending and consumer protection requirements.

Review new and existing lending products, programs, policies, disclosures, and customer communications for legal and regulatory compliance.

Draft, review, and revise consumer lending agreements, disclosures, notices, policies, procedures, and related documentation.

Counsel business, product, operations, compliance, and risk teams regarding product development, implementation, and ongoing servicing matters.

Advise on regulatory changes and assist with evaluating and implementing necessary changes to lending products and practices.

Identify and assess legal and regulatory risks and provide practical recommendations that balance compliance requirements with business objectives.

Support regulatory examinations, audits, complaints, remediation efforts, and other consumer lending matters as needed.

Maintain timely, proactive communication with stakeholders and respond promptly to questions, requests, and time-sensitive business needs.

Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and outside counsel on complex or specialized consumer finance issues.
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

At least 5 years of experience advising on consumer lending and consumer financial services, preferably within a bank, credit union, fintech, other financial institution, or a law firm with a strong consumer finance practice.

Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing consumer lending.

Experience advising on the development, documentation, compliance, and/or servicing of consumer lending products.

Highly responsive and dependable, with a demonstrated ability to manage time-sensitive requests and keep stakeholders informed.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and regulatory issues in clear, practical terms to non-lawyers.

Strong drafting and analytical skills.

Ability to quickly assess legal and regulatory issues and provide practical, business-oriented guidance.

Comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong communication and collaboration with business, compliance, risk, and senior leadership teams.
Position Details
- Type of role: Engagement role

Schedule: Part-time initially, with the ability to increase to full-time based on business needs.
- Location: Remote from anywhere. The engagement has the potential to convert to a permanent position. Candidates seeking permanent conversion must be located in or willing to relocate to Portland, Oregon.
Compensation:
Pay: The annualized pay for this position ranges from $175,000 to $225,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).
Benefits: In addition to pay, all Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary professional liability insurance coverage. Latitude contract professionals are usually W2 employees of Latitude and are eligible for full benefits when working in roles for 20 hours per week. Benefits-eligible Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary Group Life, LTD and AD&D. A qualified 401k plan is also available. Benefits-eligible Latitude Attorneys also receive a CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
