JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Playground Monitor is responsible for ensuring a safe and positive environment for students during recess and outdoor play. This role involves supervising students, promoting respectful behavior, and enforcing school rules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervise students during lunch, recess and other outdoor activities.
2. Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with school rules.
3. Promote inclusive and cooperative play among students.
4. Intervene in conflicts or unsafe situations and report incidents to appropriate school staff..
5. Ensure playground equipment is used safely and appropriately.
6. Maintain a visible and approachable presence to support a positive environment.
7. Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student behavior and safety concerns.
8. Assist with arrival, dismissal, or lunchtime supervision as needed.
9. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department’s or school’s goals and objectives and the District’s mission and Superintendent’s Priority Goals.

· Experience working with children in a school, daycare, or youth program setting preferred.
· Ability to remain alert and attentive in an outdoor environment.
· Good interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to manage student behavior in a firm, fair, and respectful manner.
· Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
· Value, demonstrate, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion .

This position requires individuals to live in the territorial boundaries of the School District of Pittsburgh. If hired for this position you will be required to establish residence within three calendar months of your hire date with Pittsburgh Public Schools.
