About Hunterdon Academy of the Arts
Founded in 1981, Hunterdon Academy of the Arts (“HAA”) is Hunterdon County’s largest performing arts afterschool program and a six-time winner of the Hunterdon Happening List Best Music School Award. We provide face-to-face and online Music and Acting lessons for children, teenagers, and adults.
Our state-of-the-art facility, located in Flemington, NJ, features 20 classrooms and a performance hall. HAA operates year-round, Monday through Saturday, and employs more than 30 instructors and administrative staff members. All regular Faculty and Administrative Support Staff are W-2 employees.
We are currently seeking a strong, experienced Associate Director to help guide the continued growth and operational success of our organization. The ideal candidate will advance to Director upon successful completion of the 6-9 month training period.
Position Overview
This is a leadership role for an experienced operations and people manager who thrives in a fast-paced educational environment. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational and supervisory skills, a growth-oriented mindset, and the ability to effectively manage systems, staff, and day-to-day business operations.
The ideal candidate is:

This is a full-time onsite position averaging approximately 45–50 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- After an initial training period and co-directing alongside the current interim Director, supervise all administrative staff and instructors (approximately 35 employees)
- Drive enrollment growth while minimizing student withdrawals
- Work with Ownership to establish monthly, quarterly, and annual performance goals and KPIs for both staff and company operations
- Ensure accurate company data management across all databases and systems
- Process company payroll
- Create staff schedules and conduct employee training
- Conduct regular performance reviews for Administrative Staff in coordination with the HR Director
- Prepare student retention reports
- Resolve employee and client concerns professionally and efficiently
- Ensure the facility remains safe, secure, and compliant with applicable regulations
- Coordinate with outside vendors and maintain operational supplies
- Maintain a productive and professional working relationship with Ownership
Training & Onboarding
To ensure long-term success in the role, the selected candidate will complete comprehensive training on all company systems, policies, procedures, sales processes, and customer service standards.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required
- Business or Music degree preferred
- Proven leadership experience, especially in educational settings
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong computer and technology proficiency
- Growth-oriented, data-driven mindset
- Ability to analyze and improve company procedures and workflows
- Experience creating staff schedules and managing teams
- Must be able to work afternoons and evenings (at least until 7pm, sometimes until 9pm)
Preferred Experience
Candidates should have documented management experience in for-profit organizations. Experience managing a privately owned educational institution is strongly preferred.

Management experience in other industries will also be considered if candidates can demonstrate success in:
