Shipping Clerk Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and organized Shipping Clerk to join our pharmacy team. The Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing, packaging, and shipping prescription orders accurately and efficiently while supporting the pharmacy's shipping and fulfillment operations.
This position works primarily behind the scenes and does not involve face-to-face patient interaction. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to ensuring orders are packaged accurately and shipped in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare prescription orders for shipment according to established pharmacy procedures.
- Verify that packages contain the correct items and shipping materials before orders are finalized.
- Package medications and related items securely and appropriately for shipment.
- Print and apply shipping labels accurately.
- Process outgoing shipments using designated shipping carriers and systems.
- Ensure shipments are prepared according to established shipping requirements and pharmacy procedures.
- Track shipments and document shipping information as required.
- Identify and report damaged, incomplete, or incorrectly prepared packages to the appropriate pharmacy staff.
- Assist with resolving shipping discrepancies and delivery issues.
- Maintain an organized and clean shipping and work area.
- Restock shipping supplies and notify management when supplies are low.
- Assist with receiving and organizing incoming supplies as needed.
- Scan, file, and maintain shipping-related documentation.
- Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and applicable confidentiality requirements.
- Handle patient and prescription information appropriately and maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Work closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other staff to ensure orders move through the fulfillment process efficiently.
- Perform other shipping, warehouse, and clerical duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous shipping, fulfillment, warehouse, pharmacy, or customer service experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn shipping and pharmacy-related software.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, fulfillment, or shipping environment.
- Familiarity with shipping software and carrier systems.
- Experience with UPS, FedEx, USPS, or other shipping carriers.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
