Business Manager / Operator
Appliance Repair & Service Company — Southern New Jersey
About the Role
We're a well-established appliance repair and service business serving Southern New Jersey with a team of up to 10. We're looking for a hands-on Business Manager/Operator to run day-to-day operations, keep the team productive, and drive growth. This is a high-ownership role suited to someone who wants to run a business, not just manage a department.

Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Own daily scheduling and dispatch to maximize technician efficiency and same-day service capacity
- Monitor job flow from intake through completion and invoicing
- Oversee parts ordering, and manage vendor relationships, and inventory levels
- Ensure high service quality standards and customer satisfaction across all jobs
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support up to 10 employees (technicians and support staff)
- Handle hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of all staff
- Run brief daily/weekly team check-ins to align on business priorities and open jobs
- Resolve technician escalations and customer service issues in a timely manner
Financial Oversight
- Manage day-to-day P&L: labor costs, vendor costs, job pricing, and margins
- Review and approve invoicing, payroll hours, and expenses
- Track KPIs: jobs completed, revenue per tech, first-time fix rate, customer retention, etc.
- Report financial and operational performance to ownership on a weekly basis
Customer & Business Development
- Serve as escalation point for customer complaints and complex service issues
- Identify opportunities to grow revenue (service contracts, new customer segments, pricing)
- Maintain relationships with key accounts (property managers, landlords, warranty companies)
- Oversee marketing/local advertising efforts as needed
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure that licensing, insurance, and safety compliance are current
- Maintain vehicle/equipment maintenance schedules
- Oversee basic HR administration (scheduling, PTO, disciplinary matters)
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years managing a small business, field service operation, or trade business (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, etc.)
- Proven ability to manage a team of 7-10 people
- Strong organizational and scheduling skills; comfortable with dispatch/field service software
- P&L literacy — can read a monthly financial statement and make decisions from it
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred
- Experience in appliance repair, HVAC, or another home services trade
- Familiarity with field service management software (e.g., ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, FieldEdge, Jobber, Service Works, etc.)
- Local knowledge of the Southern NJ service area
What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)
- Smooth daily operations with minimal owner involvement in scheduling/dispatch
- Stable or improved technician utilization and first-time fix rates
- Clean, on-time invoicing and reporting
- No unresolved customer escalations lingering past 48 hours
- Continued growth of business with respect to technicians (recruitment and retention), number of jobs completed successfully the first time, increasing the geographical area of service, and growing the business
Compensation
Base salary, commensurate with experience, plus a performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary tied to revenue and set KPI’s and targets
Location
On-site, Southern New Jersey — daily presence required; this is not a remote role
Pay: $55,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
