What is Gigi’s?
Not your grandma’s place or cupcakes – we’re a startup and rapidly growing non-profit that provides access to integrated shelter, veterinary, and behavior care to homeless dogs in rural shelters.
We believe that Improving the Lives of Shelter Dogs™ requires a different approach in shelters and rescues. We've assembled one set of experts in one care facility to serve many rural shelters; a more cost-effective method of delivering quality care to save more lives. Gigi’s is adding new programming to offer low-cost veterinary services to high-quality rescues and we’re expanding our veterinary team (all positions.) We want you to join and learn with our team of experts!

As a Team Gigi’s VETERINARY ASSISTANT, you’ll get to:
- help hospitalized dogs every day.
- fill and give medications.
- give vaccine and preventatives.
- clean dog living spaces.
- keep the hospital clean throughout the day so dogs are safe and happy.
- learn perform and learn
- run diagnostics such as fecal floats/smears, heartworm tests, cytology, etc.
- assist with restraint for exams and induction for surgery.
- scrub and autoclaving surgical instruments.
- participate on team responsible for euthanasia implementation as necessary
- represents Gigi’s in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
- be an active member of Team Gigi’s and develop skills related to the advancement of our goals and mission.
Other duties as assigned? Absolutely. We think every job should change and grow—getting more efficient and effective as we go! All members of Team Gigi’s collaborate and change tasks as requested by leadership. You will most certainly do things we haven’t listed here; some are tasks we haven’t captured because they’re too small to capture and keep you interested, some are projects we haven’t considered that you’ll bring to the team, some things we’ll build together to improve the care of dogs forever.
Must have:
- Experience in animal care
- Comfort with computers
- Excellent dog care and handling skills
- Good judgement
- No allergies to animals
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, as well as an insurable driving record for company vehicle transports.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually.
- Weekends required
Nice to have:
- Emergency experience
- Surgery experience
- Shelter experience
- 1-2 years of practice (New graduates will be considered if the right candidate)
- Experience working in database software (practice, shelter, and/or customer management systems)

We operate in a state-of-the-art hospital that sits inside a three-building, 26,000-square-foot campus doing things like high-volume/high-quality spay and neuter, veterinary behavior medicine – alongside a board-certified veterinary behaviorist! –parvovirus treatment, dental surgery, diagnostics, mass removal, and more. We do shelter medicine at a volume and skill level that will fulfill you as much as it challenges you!
