POSITION FUNCTION: Responsible for any welding and polishing work associated with the manufacturing process of fabricated stainless-steel weldments. The welder / polisher is responsible for the precision welding & polishing of stainless-steel products to FREUND Inc.’s specifications. Attention to detail, good mechanical aptitude and the ability and willingness to follow directions and work well in a team is a requirement. The welder / polisher must have a positive attitude and good verbal communication skills. The welder / polisher must be able to take constructive criticism and be self-motivated.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded / polished.
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Weld components together and fabricate or repair products in accordance with blueprints.
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws and to ensure the weld meet FV specifications.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Ensure personal safety and safety of others around them by using equipment as intended.
- Complete daily housekeeping duties in workstation.
- Complete assigned work within the given timeline/budget according to standards.
- Deburr, buff or polish materials to specifications.
- Match work orders to components.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: High School graduate or equivalent required. Knowledge of metallurgy required. Professional Certification; e.g., an AWS welding certificate is required.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG etc.). Experience in using electrical or manual tools required (saws, squares, calipers, tap measure, etc.) Metal polishing experience is required.
- Relevant Skills: Must be able to perform manual, physical activity. Must be comfortable working in often dirty and sometimes confined spaces. Must have good hand-eye coordination and good mathematical skills. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings (blueprints). Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.). Ability to handle stress produced by time pressure, design flaws, customer demands, etc. Deftness and attention to detail.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb and descend stairs several times daily. Must be able to sit, reach, twist, and work in small, confined areas.
