The mission of the Engineering Application Support section is to procure, install and test functionality of numerous engineering applications on NMDOT endpoints. Also, to license application users and setup network access for staff in the Survey, Design, Construction and Engineering units, enabling them to engage in project engineering/design, plan set production, and construction management of the maintenance and construction projects NMDOT conducts on state-wide transportation infrastructure.

Why does the job exist?
This position exists to conduct day to day operations and activities pertaining to the unit description above. In addition to endpoint and user setup, we provide front-line technical support for applications when possible. This position is also responsible for the development and maintenance of various utility scripts crucial to application functionality, user access, data management across IT networks.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Assisting in the development and/or maintenance of various utility scripts which are used to provide a stable virtual workspace providing connectivity for data flow between application endpoints, required application resources, and data storage locations of design production.
- Responsible for downloading engineering software installation files,and creating deployment packages for the installation of software and updates on DOT computers (state-wide).
- Responsible for assigning users appropriate access permissions through Active Directory settings specific to design group access needs and workflows, and for assigning application licenses to DOT users and/or computers.
- Responsible for providing first-tier technical support for CAD-related applications as well as tech support to users of various other engineering apps when possible, otherwise escalates to second-tier tech support through application providers when necessary.
- Responsible for periodic maintenance of license servers and data storage servers.
- Responsible for assisting in the migration of engineering applications from locally licensed, served and stored, to cloud-based licensing and serving and storing of data.
- Responsible for maintaining subscriptions to multiple applications through coordination with vendors for annual subscription renewals while following procurement procedures to ensure license and maintenance renewals are kept up to date.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in software programming. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting and requires sitting at a desk for extended periods, working on a computer, with climate control, moderate noise levels, proper lighting, and access to basic office equipment like phones and printers, often in a space with cubicles or individual workstations, with the primary physical demands being keyboarding, mouse usage, occasional lifting and moving of IT equipment and occasional short term travel or driving for support outside of the General Office.
