Job Responsibilities
The Registered Veterinary Technician will:
- Follow digital treatment plans and work closely with the veterinary team.
- Conduct technician appointments independently within the scope of the RVT license.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients about medications, treatments, procedures, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Perform venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, and other sample-collection procedures.
- Run in-house diagnostics, including bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal testing, and cytology.
- Take digital radiographs using hands-free techniques whenever possible.
- Place IV catheters and prepare patients for procedures.
- Administer medications, injections, treatments, sedation, and nursing care as directed by a veterinarian.
- Intubate cats and dogs.
- Monitor patients under sedation and general anesthesia.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changes or complications during anesthesia.
- Monitor anesthetic recovery and provide post-operative care.
- Assist with dental procedures, including dental radiographs, charting, scaling, polishing, and surgical extractions in cats and dogs under veterinarian supervision and as permitted by California regulations.
- Maintain accurate and timely digital medical records.
- Educate clients about prescriptions, preventive care, treatment plans, and home-care instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow infectious-disease and biosecurity protocols.
- Support coworkers and contribute to a respectful and efficient workplace.
Required Qualifications
- Current California RVT license or eligibility to obtain or transfer one.
- At least one year of veterinary experience.
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring, intubation, dentistry, and patient recovery.
- Confidence conducting technician appointments.
- Strong client communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to ask for help or clarification when needed.
- Proficiency with computers and digital medical records.
- Sound clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals of different sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to work around anesthesia, radiation, medications, controlled substances, biological hazards, animal waste, bites, scratches, noise, and odors.
- Must be at least 18 years old to perform radiology-related duties.
- Strong reading, writing, mathematics, and English-language skills.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or additional hours when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in general practice, urgent care, or emergency medicine.
- Advanced experience with canine and feline dental procedures and extractions.
- Experience with veterinary practice-management software.
- Experience with hands-free radiology.
- Additional certifications or specialized training.
- Previous customer-service experience.
Compensation
$28–$31 per hour, based on experience, clinical skills, education, and certifications.

Bliss Animal Hospital is looking for a skilled, dependable, and compassionate RVT who is comfortable with anesthesia, dentistry, technician appointments, client communication, and patient care.
