This position is responsible for in the field fabrication, welding, painting, finishing, and installation of a variety of standard and custom products such as stair railing, handrails, guardrails, and specialty items, offered by SMW.
Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities:
- Must exhibit a high level of professionalism, integrity, and be willing and able to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in representing SMW, without exception
- Ensure projects are completed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
- Be a “Self-Starter” - Able to work independently
- Must be able to effectively communicate with supervisors and coworkers
- Knowledge of welding processes. MIG, STICK, and TIG.
- Assists with the implementation of safety programs and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
- Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values”
- Be a “Team Player”
- Must be able to read and understand basic blueprints and shop drawings
- Know current ADA rules and guidelines for handrails and staircases
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Requirements:
- A minimum of three (3) years of fabrication field experience is a must
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be able to fabricate handrails, guardrails, and stair rails from design to delivery
- Must be able to use critical thinking to make repairs to damaged or compromised steel
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of fabrication, including technology, equipment, and methods
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, managers, and customers
- Ability to produce TOP quality work
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, or irregular hours that will be required based on schedule
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to provide legal right to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Possess a valid driver’s license
Physical Abilities:
- Ability to lift 50 (+ -) pounds
- Ability to twist, turn, and bend continuously
- Ability to push, pull and carry objects
- Ability to carry small to large tools in and around the job site
- Ability to stand and kneel for long periods of time (about 90% of the time walking, standing, or kneeling)
- Ability to perform small, detailed tasks
- Must pass a weld test
Work environment:
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles such as dust, dirt, fumes, etc
- Ability to work in an external environment and under many weather conditions, such as frigid cold, and exposure to vibration and/or loud noise
- Employer will provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed, but it will be the responsibility of the employee to dress appropriately for the weather conditions
Salary and Benefits:

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
