Job Summary
micro1 is seeking Physics Experts (PhD / Postdoc) to support AI Training and evaluation projects by contributing advanced scientific knowledge, analytical reasoning, and research expertise. In this role, you will apply your expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems by solving complex physics problems, evaluating scientific content, and producing rigorous, well-documented technical solutions across a variety of physics disciplines.
This is an hourly-paid contract opportunity, not a traditional research or academic position. Contributors will work on project-based AI training and evaluation tasks designed to improve how AI systems understand, reason about, and solve advanced physics problems.
No prior AI experience is required. What matters most is deep scientific expertise, strong mathematical reasoning, and the ability to communicate complex physics concepts clearly and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to AI training, benchmarking, and evaluation projects involving advanced physics concepts and problem-solving.
- Solve graduate- and research-level physics problems, providing rigorous derivations, analyses, and complete technical explanations.
- Produce clear, well-documented solutions using LaTeX mathematical notation.
- Utilize Python, SymPy, and Jupyter Notebook for symbolic computation, numerical verification, and reproducible scientific workflows where appropriate.
- Identify assumptions, approximations, boundary conditions, dimensional consistency, and special cases within complex physics problems.
- Review project materials, identify ambiguities, and propose technically sound interpretations and clarifications.
- Revise and improve submitted work based on reviewer feedback while maintaining scientific rigor and documentation quality.
- Collaborate remotely with multidisciplinary teams to improve AI reasoning and scientific accuracy.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or advanced-stage PhD candidate with active research experience in a relevant specialization.
- Deep expertise in one or more areas such as High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, AMO Physics, Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with LaTeX for technical writing and mathematical documentation.
- Experience using Python, SymPy, and Jupyter Notebook for scientific computing and computational verification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain advanced scientific concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment while maintaining high standards of scientific accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent peer-reviewed publications or preprints (within the past five years) with accessible arXiv or DOI records.
- Active research experience in a specialized area of theoretical, computational, or experimental physics.
- Strong background in scientific documentation, reproducible research, and computational workflows.
- Experience applying computational methods to complex physical systems.
- Interest in AI, scientific computing, or applying physics expertise to emerging technology platforms.
- Availability to contribute consistently over an 8–10 week engagement (approximately 10 hours per week).
Additional Information
This opportunity is ideal for PhD-level physicists and postdoctoral researchers who want to apply their scientific expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems. Your work will directly influence how AI models reason about advanced physics, mathematical derivations, computational analysis, scientific problem-solving, and research-quality technical communication.
