LocalVet Urgent Care is seeking a motivated pre-veterinary student to join our team as a Veterinary Assistant. Responsibilities
- Assist veterinary staff with emergency procedures, including animal restraint, IV insertion, vascular access, and anesthesia monitoring.
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment such as radiology machines, laboratory analyzers, and surgical tools to ensure optimal functionality.
- Support diagnostic procedures including radiology diagnostics, laboratory work, and pet grooming to facilitate accurate diagnoses.
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques; perform animal husbandry tasks to promote comfort and well-being.
- Administer medications, perform phlebotomy (blood draws), and assist with critical & intensive care treatments.
- Maintain detailed records of patient care using veterinary software; document procedures, medications administered, and client communications.
- Communicate clearly with pet owners about treatment plans and post-care instructions while providing compassionate pet care.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in a pre-veterinary or animal science program (University of Arkansas students encouraged to apply)
- Passionate about pursuing a career in veterinary medicine
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual

- Able to thrive in a fast-paced urgent care environment
- Comfortable working with animals of all sizes and temperaments
- Strong communicator with excellent customer service skills
- Able to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team

- Able to lift up to 40 pounds and remain on their feet for extended periods
- While not required, the following are a plus:
- Experience working with animals (veterinary clinic, kennel, shelter, rescue, pet sitting, livestock, equestrian, etc.)
- Customer service experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
