AWS SUPERVISOR - JANITORIAL SERVICES
Reporting to the Site Manager, the AWS Supervisor – Janitorial Services is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of janitorial operations during the assigned Alternating Work Schedule (AWS). This position provides direct leadership to union-represented hourly team members and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements, DFM Solutions' standards, and the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The AWS Supervisor is responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing, work quality, safety, productivity, and employee accountability while supporting a positive working relationship with the customer and union workforce.
Primary Goals and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
Operations & Service Delivery
- Supervise and coordinate daily janitorial activities to ensure completion of assigned work and customer satisfaction.
- Assign work and provide direction to hourly team members based on staffing, operational priorities, and customer requirements.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and site tours to evaluate work quality, identify deficiencies, and ensure timely corrective action.
- Coordinate staffing and work assignments to maintain appropriate coverage and meet contractual service requirements.
- Respond to customer concerns, changing priorities, and service needs during the assigned shift.
- Communicate operational issues, staffing concerns, and significant shift activity to Site Management.
Team & Labor Management
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and day-to-day leadership to union-represented hourly team members.
- Administer applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions and established work rules consistently and in partnership with Site Management and People Services.
- Monitor employee attendance, timekeeping, overtime, scheduling, and work assignments to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Address employee performance, attendance, and conduct concerns and administer corrective action in accordance with company policy and the CBA.
- Participate in employee relations matters, investigations, and the grievance process as appropriate.
- Maintain professional working relationships with employees and union representatives while supporting effective labor-management relations.
- Train and develop team members to ensure employees understand job expectations, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote a safety-first culture and demonstrate role-model behavior consistent with DFM's safety, integrity, and ethical standards.
- Conduct required safety huddles and reinforce safe work practices throughout the shift.
- Ensure employees comply with DFM, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors and report incidents in accordance with established procedures.
- Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor service quality and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected promptly.
Customer & Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain professional relationships with customer representatives and respond promptly to customer concerns and requests.
- Maintain accurate employee time and attendance records and other required shift documentation.
- Monitor janitorial supplies, materials, and equipment and communicate replenishment or operational needs.
- Participate in customer and operational meetings as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Prior Experience:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably within janitorial, facilities services, manufacturing, or a similar operational environment.
- Experience directly supervising hourly employees in a fast-paced operation.
- Experience working in a union environment required; UAW experience strongly preferred.
- Experience interpreting and administering Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions preferred.
- Automotive manufacturing or other 24/7 industrial experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, attendance, performance, and employee relations matters.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with employees, union representatives, customers, and management.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and timekeeping/workforce systems.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
