Travel RN - Med/Surg

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Acute care Med/Surg unit with 37 beds, a mix of private and semi-private rooms
Patient population includes COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, and pneumonia, as well as surgical patients (hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections)
Day shift ratios are 1:4-6 and night shift ratios are 1:5-6, with CNA support at 1:10-15
Unit takes telemetry patients monitored centrally, with common drips including Lasix and Heparin
No ventilators on the unit, but BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow patients are cared for
12-hour day shifts (7a-7:30p) with self-scheduling attempted, though manager-built schedules are used due to short contract length
Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) for day shift
May require working every other holiday depending on schedule
No call requirement
Floating to other units may be required based on competency, with a full patient assignment taken when floating
Uses EPIC EMR
Hospitalist and APN coverage in-house, with eHospitalist support overnight
Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; pharmacy on-site during the day with ePharmacist support overnight
No dedicated IV team

Active IL RN license or confirmation that the licensing application process has been initiated
BLS certification (AHA) required
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
EPIC EMR experience preferred
Must be able to pass a drug screen for all panels as part of a drug-free campus policy

Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit treating a variety of medical and post-surgical patients
Charge nurses are typically available 24/7 and may take patient assignments as needed
Floor-specific orientation includes 2 days in the department and 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation
No specific scrub color required; approved OSF logo gear may be worn with scrub pants
Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
COVID vaccination is not required for this position
