Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and dependable Optometric Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support our optometrists in providing high-quality eye care services to patients. You will be responsible for assisting with patient examinations, managing office tasks, and ensuring a smooth workflow in the clinic. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and a passion for helping others. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to multitask. No experience in eye care is necessary as we are willing to invest time to train the right person. We offer a competitive pay scale based on experience, no night or weekend hours, and some flexibility to adjust your schedule with other staff members. The initial schedule for this position is 3+ days per week after initial training period. Staff members are expected to fill in for one another to accommodate both planned and unexpected absences.
Responsibilities:
- Answer phones, greet patients with a smile, schedule appointments, accurately route patient inquiries and ensure the office is clean & organized.
- Conduct preliminary and diagnostic testing and accurately record results.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Correctly enter prescription (eRx) orders to be filled by pharmacy.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care, including insertion and removal of lenses.
- Assist patients with frame selections and order, adjust, and dispense glasses.
- Schedule appointments and follow up with patients regarding their visits.
- Support administrative tasks within the clinic, including medical coding and data entry.
- Coordinate patient care with other doctors.
- Calculate patient & insurance fees, accurately input information into computer, type basic forms, and balance end-of-day reports.
- Collaborate with team members to provide exceptional patient care in a friendly environment.
- Fill in for other staff members to accommodate both planned and unexpected absences.
Skills
- The ability to rapidly learn and retain a variety of new skills is essential.
- Ability to navigate clinic systems efficiently for scheduling and record management.
- Basic knowledge of medical coding practices to assist with billing processes.
- Familiarity with optometric practices and terminology is beneficial.
- Understanding of optical products and services to assist patients effectively.
- Proficiency in HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Sales experience is a plus, particularly in an optical or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of anatomy related to the eye and vision is helpful.
