POSITION: Surgery Scheduler
RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: Ensure all office & facility surgeries have pre-authorization, and that patients are eligible for services on the date of their appointment.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma required
- College education or trade school preferred
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD-9 (ICD-10) Coding
- Up to two years experience in a medical office
- Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
- Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
- Working knowledge of managed care
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
- Neat, professional appearance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Surgery Scheduling Duties
- Coordinate and Schedule surgery appointments with MTENT & surgical facilities with follow-up appointments as designed by physicians.
- Interact with patients’, physicians and other staff both within the Clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information
- Maintains working file of all referral authorizations; enters authorization numbers into the computer system
- Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
- Ensure that appropriate and complete documentation is sent to the insurance company when procedures require precert and that this be done in a timely manner
- Ensure efficient telephone or email communication.
- Follow all written protocols and procedures of the Clinic.
- Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.
Other
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attends continuing education courses as requested
- Performs additional duties as requested by Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor
- Attends all schedule office meetings

Typical Physical Demands
Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.
Typical Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
