ASSISTANT GROUP SUPERVISORS: Part-time Morning:
The assistant teacher is responsible for assisting with supervision and management of a classroom in accordance with the philosophy, mission, goals and curriculum plan of the Stay and Play Preschool. All staff will uphold the mandates of the employee handbook. The principal duties of the assistant teacher include: participating in development of lesson plans, carrying out activities on a daily basis and evaluating the effectiveness of child development activities, ensuring the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintaining regular communication with parents, and contributing to the effective operation of the overall Stay and Play program. The assistant teacher reports to the lead teacher.

· Assist teacher in carrying out the entire classroom program.
· Assist in the supervision and guidance of the child’s development.
· Maintain a positive, safe, and healthy classroom environment.
· Assist in the planning and organizing of classroom activities as assigned by the teacher.
· Participate in the classroom teaching team by working cooperatively with all team members.
· Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records as assigned by teacher.
· Work with parents under the direction of the lead teacher.
· Additional duties as assigned.
· Physical strength requirements same as group supervisor (See #5 under teachers/group supervisors.
· Fulfills the role of the lead teacher in his/her absence.

· Using appropriate discipline in accordance with DHS regulations and Stay and Play Preschool Policies.
· Attend 12 hours of workshops per year in accordance with Stay and Play Preschool Policies.

· Maintain a warm supportive role with the children.
· Participate and facilitate learning through play.
· Extend their learning through scaffolding their play.
· Use a clear and well-modulated voice when speaking with children and model appropriate language.
· Listen attentively to children and sit, bend or kneel at the child’s level when interacting with them.
· Warmly greet each child upon arrival and help children separate from parents.
· Reinforce positive behavior and treat children impartially.

- Contribute to the operation of the center by participating in staff meetings and sharing information gained through attendance at workshops and professional reading. Will be expected to report at the staff meeting following trainings as part of the agenda.
- Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center.
- Insure a friendly and respectful atmosphere among co-workers by assuming fair share of work, looking for ways to be helpful, showing flexibility in receiving assignments, and adapting cooperatively to changes in program.
- Communicate directly, avoiding gossip.
- Uphold the Stay and Play mission and philosophy while interacting with coworkers in a manner that shows respect for their personal and technical differences.
- Accept suggestions and constructive criticism gracefully in order to improve work performance.
Must fall in one of the following categories:
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including or more hours of secondary training.
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and 1 year experience with children.
A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum.
A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
