Overview
MedSurg RNs provide bedside care for a variety of patients and execute individualized patient assessments to create an individualized plan of care. MedSurg RNs prepare equipment and assist physicians during examination and treatment of patients. MedSurg RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- MedSurg RNs prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications
- Initiate alternative action when adverse symptomology is displayed
- Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs when necessary
Requirements
- Valid RN (Registered Nurse) license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred
- BLS certification
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, including 1 year in a specialty setting
- Recent hospital experience in Trauma Level I/II environments
- Proficiency in Epic EMR system
- ACLS certification
- Experience with Heparin and Lasix GTT (non-titrated)
- Telemetry monitoring expertise
- Flexibility to work every other weekend and 2-3 holidays
- Experience with medical conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, AKI, radiation patients
- Familiarity with procedures like lap chole, appendectomy, and telemonitoring
- Ability to work in a tagged Trauma Level II facility
- Commitment to completing orientation and unit protocols
- Knowledge of Med Surg patient ratios (1:5-6 days, 1:6 nights)
- Flexibility to float to other low-acuity units (ICU, RDU, Clinics)
- Experience working within policies allowing client cancellations proportional to scheduled hours
- Ability to work 36 hours per week
- Valid AZ RN license or ability to obtain
- Willingness to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays
