Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. This role is essential to delivering high-quality sushi and maintaining the precision, consistency, and artistry expected in Japanese cuisine. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in sushi preparation, a commitment to food safety, and a passion for creating an exceptional dining experience.
Responsibilities
- Prepare sushi, sashimi, and other menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
- Prepare sushi ingredients, including sushi rice, fish, and vegetables.
- Ensure all ingredients are handled, stored, and prepared in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station, including proper storage of fish, rice, and tools.
- Skillfully operate and maintain knives and other specialized sushi equipment.
- Monitor freshness and quality of ingredients, especially fish and vegetables, and report any concerns.
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and communicate to ensure efficient service during peak hours.
- Follow all health and safety standards within the kitchen environment.
Experience
- Previous experience as a sushi chef or in a Japanese kitchen is required; additional training will be provided.
- Knowledge and experience of fish filleting are highly valued.
- Knowledge of preparing sushi rolls, fish handling, and rice preparation is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining precision and attention to detail.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Flexible and open availability is preferred.
Pay range is subject to change based on experience.
