We are seeking a motivated and creative Gallery Assistant Manager to join our art gallery in Carmel by the Sea. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in the daily operations of the gallery, assisting with exhibitions, facilitating sales, and maintaining client communications. This position is perfect for individuals with experience having worked in art gallery sales, passionate about fine art, and eager to gain hands-on experience in a small, but, vibrant gallery environment. As a small gallery, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working in an independent fashion and understands how gallery traffic can vary dramatically from day to day.

Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the gallery each day.
- Assist in the curating, planning, marketing, setup and breakdown of exhibitions.
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with visitors, answering questions, and providing information about current exhibitions and artists.
- Engage with prospective clients in facilitating sales, staging contracts, and shipment methods.
- Provide support and communication to artists represented by the gallery as to sales transactions, inventory status and exhibition deadlines.
- Support the gallery founder with administrative tasks, including inventory management, email marketing, and developing a customer database.
- Keep the website and Square inventory up to date with images, dimensions, and prices.
- Maintain gallery appearance and ensure the availability of necessary supplies.
- Help create promotional materials using design software.
- Participate in organizing gallery events including gallery receptions and dinners, helping to ensure smooth operations.
Skills
The ideal candidate should possess a combination of the following skills:
- Experience in art gallery sales and/or support.
- Knowledge and fluency in modern and contemporary art.
- Proficiency in Photography to capture gallery events and artworks effectively.
- Experience in Web design to assist with maintaining the gallery's website (constructed in ArtCloud).
- Experience in Social Media, in particular with Instagram, and comfort with creating posts to maintain and enhance the gallery's Instagram site.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure that all visitor and client activity is properly documented and maintained.
- Experience in email marketing with MailChimp.
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
