Tank Project Manager
Position Summary
The Tank Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, coordination, and successful completion of welded steel storage tank projects from contract award through final closeout. This position serves as the primary point of contact for owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements and applicable industry standards, including API 650, AWWA and API 620.
Essential Responsibilities
Project Management

Manage multiple tank fabrication and construction projects simultaneously.

Develop and maintain project schedules from engineering through commissioning.

Monitor project budgets, labor, equipment, and material costs.

Review project specifications, drawings, contracts, and bid documents.

Coordinate engineering, detailing, procurement, fabrication, coating, transportation, and field erection activities.

Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
-
Maintain project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Client Relations
-
Serve as the primary contact for project owners and engineers.
-
Lead project kickoff meetings and weekly progress meetings.
-
Provide regular project status updates.
-
Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders.
-
Resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Engineering & Fabrication Coordination

Coordinate with engineering to ensure drawings and calculations are completed on schedule.

Review fabrication drawings before release to production.
-
Coordinate shop fabrication priorities with production management.
-
Monitor fabrication progress and production schedules.
-
Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules.
Construction Management
-
Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and equipment.

Develop installation schedules and sequencing.
-
Monitor field productivity and progress.
-
Ensure field work complies with project specifications and quality standards.
-
Coordinate hydrostatic testing, coating, inspections, and commissioning activities.
Financial Management
-
Prepare project cost forecasts.
-
Track project costs against budget.
-
Review and approve vendor invoices.
-
Prepare monthly billing and pay applications.
-
Review subcontractor payment applications.
-
Manage project change orders and back charges.
-
Assist with project closeout and final invoicing.
Safety
-
Promote a strong safety culture throughout all project phases.
-
Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
-
Participate in site safety meetings and audits.
-
Coordinate job hazard analyses and project-specific safety plans.
-
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Quality Control
-
Ensure compliance with API 650, API 620, AWWA, AWS, and project specifications.
-
Coordinate third-party inspections and testing.
-
Review welding procedures, inspection reports, and non-destructive examination (NDE) documentation.
-
Oversee project quality documentation and turnover packages.
Project Closeout

Coordinate punch list completion.
-
Assemble closeout documentation.
-
Submit warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings.
-
Conduct final project review and lessons learned meetings.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in industrial construction, steel fabrication, or storage tank projects.
-
Experience with API 650, AWWA and/or API 620 storage tanks preferred.
-
Strong understanding of fabrication and field erection processes.
-
Experience managing subcontractors and multiple concurrent projects.

Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
-
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6).

Experience with ERP and project management software is preferred.
