Director of Programs and Community Engagement
Position Summary: The Director of Programs and Community Engagement will assume a pivotal role in spearheading program development and management, community outreach and engagement, community organizing, workforce development, and employment assistance initiatives at the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Programs and working closely with them, stakeholders, and community partners, the Director will lead the conception and execution of impactful programs and campaigns aligned with the Urban League's mission and objectives.
Responsibilities:
1. Program Development and Strategic Planning:
- Conceptualize and execute a comprehensive program development strategy aligned with the organization's mission and community engagement objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the program and engagement team, ensuring the effective implementation of initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Vice President of Programs to integrate program development and community engagement into the overall organizational strategy.
2. Community Engagement, Outreach and Advocacy:
- Foster and nurture relationships with community members, partner organizations, and stakeholders to cultivate collaboration and active engagement.
- Formulate and implement community engagement campaigns, focusing on building community power, addressing critical issues, and mobilizing residents.
- Lead community meetings, events, and workshops to educate, inform, empower, and activate community members on pertinent economic, educational, health, social justice, and civic participation issues.
- Forge partnerships with the Senior Vice President of Programs and like-minded community allies to design and execute comprehensive community engagement initiatives.
- Establish coalitions and collaborative partnerships with organizations sharing a common mission to amplify advocacy endeavors and achieve shared objectives.
3. Program/Project Management and Workforce Initiatives:
- Oversee workforce development and employment assistance programs that empower individuals in the community to access meaningful employment opportunities.
- Assume responsibility for the planning, execution, and evaluation of program initiatives, encompassing community engagement, advocacy, and workforce development.
- Develop and manage project timelines and resources efficiently.
- Ensure the effective tracking and reporting of program outcomes and impacts to stakeholders and funding entities.
4. Team Leadership and Development:
- Offer strong leadership and mentorship to the community engagement team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work atmosphere.
- Identify and facilitate training and professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and expertise of team members.
Execute all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, public policy, community development) required. Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience in community engagement, community organizing, advocacy, or related fields.
- Profound understanding of community engagement, mobilization, and organizing principles, advocacy strategies, and policy development processes.
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a talent for motivating and inspiring a diverse team.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for building strong relationships across a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
- Robust organizational and project management capabilities, with the capacity to efficiently handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
