Otis is a high-end residential construction company serving the Portland area for more than 30 years. We build, renovate, and care for exceptional homes and are looking for an experienced Construction Bookkeeper to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting operations. As part of our small, collaborative, and long-tenured team, you'll work directly with company leadership and our outside accounting partners to maintain accurate financial records, support project teams, and improve the systems and processes that help our business operate effectively.
While accounting is the primary focus of this role, the successful candidate will also contribute to process improvement, systems administration, documentation, and other operational initiatives that support the business.
This position offers the opportunity to take increasing ownership of accounting processes, systems, and operational support functions over time. This full-time, hourly (non-exempt) position is based in our NE Portland office and is intended to be performed in person during regular Monday-Friday business hours.

Your New Role
As our Construction Bookkeeper, you'll serve as a trusted resource for the company's accounting operations, helping ensure projects, vendors, employees, and financial records stay organized and accurate.
Responsibilities include:
- Accounts payable and vendor management
- Accounts receivable, client invoicing, and collections support
- Payroll processing and employee reimbursements
- Job costing and project accounting support
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting activities
- 1099 reporting and other accounting compliance requirements
- Maintaining accurate financial records in QuickBooks and related systems
- Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency
- Supporting leadership with financial reporting and project-related accounting information
- Construction compliance documentation, including W-9s, insurance certificates, and lien waivers
- Participating in cross-functional projects involving software systems, process documentation, workflow improvements, and operational support
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of bookkeeping experience
- Construction bookkeeping or construction accounting experience preferred
- Proven ability to independently manage core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping
- Understanding of job costing and project-based accounting within a construction environment
- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and Online
- Experience with Procore, InBuild, or other construction management software is a plus
- Experience implementing, improving, or troubleshooting accounting and business systems is a plus
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Reliable follow-through and a commitment to accuracy, organization, and meeting deadlines
- Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and recommend practical solutions
- Interest in improving processes, learning new systems, and finding opportunities to work more efficiently
- Confidence to identify issues, ask questions, and proactively communicate concerns when something doesn't look right
- Clear, professional communication style and willingness to follow up with team members, vendors, and subcontractors to keep accounting information current
- High degree of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential company, employee, and client information
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a small team
- Comfortable working in a small-business environment where responsibilities occasionally extend beyond traditional bookkeeping duties.
