American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
-
32-bed Med/Tele unit with a strong cardiac focus, functioning as a PCU overflow unit
-
Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID on BiPAP, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute-on-chronic conditions

Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5, with occasional 1:5–6 on nights; PCU-level overflow patients staffed at 1:3

RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine

RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips; tele monitors are available both in rooms and at the nurses' station with a monitor tech present

RT equipment in use includes BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo; RNs are expected to troubleshoot this equipment

EMR: Epic (preferred but not required)

12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p; occasional night availability (7p–7a) may apply, with rotation occurring no more than weekly

Every other weekend required

Every other holiday required

Floating required to all areas as helping hands, full PCU patient load, full MS assignment, and some ER holds/boarding

No on-call or standby requirement

13-week contract
-
Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses will not be accepted

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — pending certifications will not be accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

PCU experience is required
-
Ability to read and interpret cardiac/telemetry strips required

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
-
Orientation consists of 2 x 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice expected by that Sunday

Charge nurses are present on both shifts and occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3
-
Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10

Any color scrubs are acceptable

Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

RTO requests of 7 or fewer days for the 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
