POSITION SUMMARY
The Houseman & Maintenance position is responsible for supporting the daily operation, cleanliness, appearance, functionality, and physical upkeep of Dana Point Yacht Club.
This is a hands-on, multi-functional position responsible for catering and Club event setup and breakdown, furniture and equipment movement, general maintenance, minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and operational support throughout the Club.
The Houseman & Maintenance employee is expected to maintain the high standards of appearance, safety, cleanliness, and service associated with a private yacht club environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLUB & CATERING EVENT SETUP
- Set up and break down Club events, private parties, weddings, meetings, banquets, and catering functions.
- Arrange tables, chairs, cocktail tables, staging, dance floors, podiums, and other event equipment according to approved event diagrams and Banquet Event Orders.
- Install and remove table extensions, banquet equipment, and event furnishings as required.
- Assist with placement of linens, event signage, decorations, umbrellas, heaters, and other function-related equipment.
- Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and fully prepared prior to guest arrival.
- Make timely room changes and resets between Club functions and events.
- Support the Catering and Food & Beverage teams with last-minute operational needs.
- Safely transport equipment, supplies, and furnishings throughout the Club.
- Assist with receiving, staging, and storing rental equipment and event supplies.
- Inspect event areas following breakdown and return furniture and equipment to designated storage locations.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
- Perform routine minor repairs throughout the Yacht Club.
- Repair or adjust doors, locks, hinges, handles, cabinets, drawers, shelving, and fixtures.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, including addressing leaking faucets, running toilets, and basic drain issues when within the employee's level of training and authorization.
- Replace light bulbs and perform minor lighting fixture maintenance.
- Repair and maintain tables, chairs, outdoor furniture, and Club furnishings.
- Perform minor wall patching, touch-up painting, caulking, and cosmetic repairs.
- Assemble and install approved furniture, shelving, fixtures, and equipment.
- Identify damaged or unsafe equipment and immediately report management concerns.
- Coordinate with management when repairs require a licensed or specialized contractor.
- Assist approved outside vendors and contractors with access to Club facilities and work areas.
- Maintain Club tools and maintenance equipment in clean and safe working condition.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
- Conduct routine visual inspections of Club facilities.
- Inspect doors, windows, flooring, ceilings, walls, railings, stairs, and common areas for damage or safety concerns.
- Check furniture and equipment for loose, damaged, or unsafe components.
- Monitor plumbing fixtures for leaks or operational problems.
- Inspect interior and exterior lighting and replace bulbs as necessary.
- Assist with routine preventative maintenance schedules.
- Report unusual noises, odors, leaks, electrical concerns, or equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Maintain a written or electronic maintenance and repair log as directed by management.
- Notify management of repairs requiring professional contractors or capital replacement.
CLUB FACILITY SUPPORT
- Assist with the daily opening and preparation of Club facilities as assigned.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of storage rooms, maintenance areas, event storage, and equipment areas.
- Move furniture and equipment as required for normal Club operations.
- Assist with seasonal decorations and holiday displays.
- Assist with patio, balcony, and exterior area preparation.
- Maintain orderly placement of outdoor furniture, umbrellas, and related equipment.
- Remove minor debris and address immediate appearance concerns throughout the property.
- Assist with emergency water cleanup, spill response, and facility protection when required.
- Support management during unexpected facility or operational issues.
- Perform special projects as assigned by the General Manager.
FOOD & BEVERAGE OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
- Assist the Food & Beverage team with movement and staging of tables, chairs, and service equipment.
- Support banquet and catering teams before, during, and after major events.
- Assist with trash removal and proper disposal during high-volume Club events.
- Transport approved equipment and supplies between designated Club areas.
- Respond promptly to maintenance concerns that may affect member or guest service.
- Assist with urgent repairs or adjustments during service when safe and appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of Club activities and avoid unnecessary disruption to members and guests.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all Dana Point Yacht Club safety policies and procedures.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Operate tools and equipment only when properly trained and authorized.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, accidents, property damage, or equipment failures.
- Place appropriate warning signage around wet floors, maintenance areas, or other temporary hazards.
- Maintain clear emergency exits, stairways, hallways, and access points.
- Follow proper lifting and material-handling procedures.
- Never perform electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, or other specialized work requiring a license or certification unless properly qualified and specifically authorized.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the ability to:
- Regularly stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull.
- Frequently lift and carry tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies.
- Lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with appropriate assistance or equipment.
- Safely use ladders and step stools when trained and authorized.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work in active event, dining, kitchen-adjacent, and maintenance environments.
WORK SCHEDULE
The Houseman & Maintenance position requires schedule flexibility based on Club operations and events. The employee may be required to work:
- Early mornings
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Holidays
- Club events
- Private catering functions
- Emergency or urgent facility situations
Schedules may change based on operational and event requirements.
