This is a full-time, onsite opportunity supporting outside plant (OSP) fiber optic construction, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and network restoration projects.

A Day in the Life of the Fiber Optic Splicing Technician
In this role, you’ll support the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of fiber optic networks across a variety of telecommunications projects. Our client is looking for someone who can confidently perform high-level splicing work, troubleshoot outages, support emergency restorations, and help ensure reliable network connectivity for customers. You’ll also mentor lower-level technicians while working closely with field teams, management, and network operations personnel to complete projects safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform fusion splicing on OSP, ADSS, and OPGW fiber optic cables
- Complete fiber terminations, ring cuts, and splice enclosure builds
- Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber characterization
- Troubleshoot signal loss, continuity issues, and network outages
- Work on aerial and underground fiber optic plant construction projects
- Perform bucket truck work, including lowering slack coils and hanging splice enclosures
- Install VCBS and BRCS systems
- Read and follow splice diagrams accurately
- Work within live traffic trays without disrupting existing service
- Perform ribbon splicing and high-count fiber splicing
- Assist with emergency callouts and service restoration efforts
- Communicate with NOC teams during troubleshooting and outage events
- Document work completed through Daily Performance Reports (DPRs)
- Train and mentor lower-level fiber technicians
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to resolve issues efficiently
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in Outside Plant fiber optic fusion splicing and testing
- CFOT certification through FOA required
- Minimum 24 fibers spliced per hour; ability to complete a 48F butt splice within 4 hours
- Proficiency with OTDR
- Prior experience with ring cuts, mid-sheath entries, and ribbon splicing; ability to work live without causing damage or outages
- Experience with emergency restoration calls; ability to work with NOC on bridge/restoration calls
- Ability to lift 75+ pounds regularly
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in random drug testing
- Ability to start at 6:30 AM to whenever you're finished at your last job for the day (Typically 8-10 hour days with 45-55/total hours per week)
- Availability for on-call schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays
