POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to initiate and develop practical, cost effective and fully functional civil designs and design drawings for any type of project that involves civil engineering through completion for the assigned project. Specifically, civil engineering as it pertains to grading, drainage, underground utilities, roadway design and erosion and sediment control features. The scope of this position requires an individual to perform a Civil Designer role on any project with respect to the development of civil designs and the generation of civil design drawings and the coordination of these designs with the other disciplines.
Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions. Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines.
Problem/ Task resolution timeframe: The majority of tasks typically take one to two days to resolve.
Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.

Civil Designer IV

Works closely with members of the team and assist to complete projects in a timely manner.

Implements and utilizes the Company’s Best Practices for projects and processes.

Begins developing familiarity with industry codes and company standards relevant to civil design.
Civil Designer III

Performs basic quantity take-offs and material calculations using design software and standards.

Reviews and incorporates redlines and design comments into updated drawing packages.

Assists in preparing design documentation such as drawing lists, notes, and simple specifications.

Begins identifying design issues or conflicts and brings them to the attention of engineers or senior designers.
Civil Designer II

Under general supervision, develops moderately complex Civil engineering drawings

Familiar with codes, permits, and software applications related to civil discipline.

Understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews civil discipline supplied documents.

Basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline

Understands compliance of engineering efforts, project schedule, controls, estimates and company procedures with assistance from the Lead Civil Designer and Supervising Engineer.

Understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews civil discipline supplied documents.
Civil Designer I

Perform complex design calculations and custom detailing

Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to junior staff.

May participate in preparing proposals and in presentations to clients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL
- Civil Designer IV – Tech/Trade School

Civil Designer III – Tech/Trade School or equivalent; two (2) years of experience

Civil Designer II – Tech/Trade School or equivalent; four (4) years of experience

Civil Designer I - Tech/Trade School or equivalent; six (6) years of experience
Compensation for this role is determined based on a variety of factors including each candidate’s relevant experience, industry background, education, and demonstrated skills.
