Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional Nursing

$30.00–$34.00/hour, depending on experience
Western Arkansas Correctional Care is a provider owned and managed, independent correctional medicine group seeking a bright and confident Registered Nurse to join our team providing medical care at the Ouachita County Detention Center. This position is ideal for nurses who enjoy autonomy, critical thinking, and fast-paced assessment rather than routine bedside care.
Correctional nursing offers the opportunity to make independent clinical decisions while caring for a diverse patient population with acute illnesses, injuries, chronic medical conditions, mental health concerns, and substance withdrawal.
What You'll Do
- Perform nursing assessments and triage of newly booked inmates and sick-call requests
- Identify patients requiring urgent evaluation or emergency transfer
- Administer medications and treatments
- Respond to medical emergencies within the facility
- Collaborate with our nurse practitioner and correctional staff
- Maintain accurate medical documentation
- Monitor patients with chronic illnesses, substance detox, and other ongoing medical needs
- Educate patients regarding medications and health conditions
What We're Looking For
- Active Arkansas RN license
- Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills
- Emergency Department, Urgent Care, EMS, or other emergency/acute care experience preferred
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with an experienced medical team
Previous correctional nursing experience is welcome but not required. We are happy to train an experienced emergency or acute care nurse who has excellent assessment and triage skills.
