OPTOMETRIC ASSISTANT-Full-time or Part-time
Day-to-day responsibilities include greeting patients, checking them in, verifying insurance information, and assisting with appointment scheduling and patient flow. The Optometric Assistant will perform preliminary testing such as visual acuity, autorefraction, and other diagnostic pre-tests under the supervision of the optometrist. Additional tasks include maintaining exam rooms and equipment, preparing charts, updating electronic records, and supporting the optometrist during exams as needed. The role also involves answering phones, providing clear information about services, and delivering courteous customer service to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of optometry or prior experience in an optometric or ophthalmic setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities, with a professional and empathetic approach to patient interactions.
- Experience with appointment scheduling, patient check-in, and basic administrative tasks in a healthcare or office environment.
- Ability to support training efforts, including learning office procedures quickly and helping new team members adapt to workflows.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow clinical protocols and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
- Comfort with basic computer use and electronic health records; willingness to learn new software systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in optometric assisting or medical assisting are a plus.
- Availability to work a consistent full-time or part-time schedule on-site in Temple City, CA.
