HSEC SHELTER MAINTENANCE & GROUNDS UPKEEP OPERATIONS
DEFINITION
Responsible for the general grounds and building upkeep; repairs in and around shelter; shelter emergency preparedness; vehicle upkeep; other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
¨ Perform activities to ensure the shelter facility is maintained in a professional & safe condition for both people and animals at all times. Perform facility repairs within capabilities in a timely manner.
¨ Upkeep of shelter property to include grounds (mowing/weed eating), interior & exterior appearance & safety.
¨ General oversight of shelter vehicle/equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure their availability and safe operation.
¨ Miscellaneous duties of picking up donated items/supplies; purchasing repair and maintenance items for the shelter as authorized.
¨ Must generally like animals and care about their welfare. Must be able to work around animals of all kinds, sizes and temperaments.
¨ Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner & represent the shelter well at all times.
¨ Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Sufficient construction/repair experience to successfully perform the duties of the Shelter Maintenance. Self-starter an absolute to see to needed repairs and upkeep.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
General construction-based knowledge to affect fence & gate repairs, minor plumbing repairs, painting, wood repair, simple electrical repairs, yard equipment maintenance & upkeep. Tool & proper use knowledge & mechanical aptitude ability necessary. Ability to represent the shelter in a professional manner at all times.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to work prolonged hours in heat and or cold, indoor and outdoor as required. Constant walking, reaching, twisting, turning, lifting, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position requires near, far, and color vision in affecting repairs around the shelter facility and for driving shelter vehicles. Ability to lift and move supplies weighing up to and sometimes over 50 pounds also is required. Ability to operate power tools and equipment in a safe manner.
WORK SCHEDULE
Flexible based on needs of the Shelter – mostly Mon-Fri. Initial work could be full-time. Likely a part-time position once established.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE
Possess a current Alabama Driver's License, be insurable by the shelter insurance carrier and pass a drug screening test prior to and at any time during employment. Must pass background investigation.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
