Salary: Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement,
initial placement on the salary schedule between
BA and MA+60 depending on the educational level,
and Step 1 and 5 depending on experience.

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 103 clubs and activities, and 34 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 96% graduation rate.

Position Summary
Oak Park and River Forest High School District 233 seeks a dedicated Reading Specialist to students who are not meeting proficiency on state standards through our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. The Reading Specialist will design and provide explicit, systematic, and diagnostic reading instruction and interventions. This role involves collaborating with educators to implement evidence-based interventions and monitor student progress to ensure college, career, and life readiness.
Job Duties:

Design and implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions, including co-teaching in content courses, providing targeted small-group or one-on-one instruction according to student needs.

Support students with building disciplinary literacy skills to access and gain full benefit from course content materials and instruction.

Utilize structured literacy approaches where appropriate with focus on phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse.

Incorporate the Active View of Reading to address cognitive processes such as self-regulation and executive function skills.

Participate in the selection and administer benchmark assessments three times annually to monitor student progress in word recognition and language comprehension.

Develop comprehensive reader profiles and intervention plans for students using survey-level assessments to inform targeted instruction.

Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary.

Collaborate regularly with general education teachers, special education staff, and multilingual learner support to integrate reading interventions.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy instruction.

Contribute to the development and refinement of the school's reading services, programs, and curriculum.

Communicate with families regarding student progress and strategies to support reading development at home.

Engage with community resources to enhance literacy opportunities for students.
Qualifications:

Master's degree in Reading

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Reading Specialist K-12 or 9-12 endorsement.

Minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in a high school setting.

Strong knowledge of structured literacy, the Active View of Reading framework, disciplinary literacy.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
