American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with at least 2 years of experience for a General/Neuro day shift OR position at a Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Hospital surgical setting at a 636-bed, Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation and Primary Stroke Center status in Milwaukee, WI
-
General/Neuro-focused OR unit with cross-training to General Main OR specialties and the Urology Center
-
Neuro/ENT cases include spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions), cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdurals), and ENT procedures (neck dissections with flaps, sinus surgeries, tympanoplasty)
-
Orthopedic cases include fractures, anterior/posterior hips, total knees, total shoulders, ortho spine, hand, foot/ankle, and arthroscopy
-
General OR cases include breast, plastic, vascular, laparoscopic, general oncology, GU, and GYN procedures
-
Navigation systems used include Medtronic (cranial and spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), Stryker, and Synaptive Navigation (cranial)
-
Orthopedic equipment includes Hana Table, Jackson Table, Beach Chair (T-Max, Arthrex, Schlein), Velys robot, and various positioning devices
-
DaVinci XI robot is in use; agency staff are not trained on robotics unless they have a strong background and are contracted beyond one term

EMR is Epic
-
8-hour day shift with variable start times between 0530–0700
-
On-call is required with a 30-minute response time; call schedules are subject to change based on staffing needs
-
General/Neuro on-call includes AM/PM end-of-shift (EOS) slots and 1–2 weekend call rotations per 8-week schedule

Weekend holiday coverage may involve working four 10-hour shifts during holiday weeks

Minimum 2 years of surgical assistant experience required

CSFA certification required from NBSTSA, ABSA, or NCCSA
-
BLS certification required
-
Active license required if applicable

Experience with neuro, spine, ENT, orthopedic, and general OR cases as described

Epic EMR experience
-
1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-

First-time travelers are not recommended for this position and would require further approval from the hiring supervisor

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible

Orientation is approximately 1 to 1.5 weeks, subject to change based on unit needs

Department support includes a Charge RN, leads, AM/PM and weekend supervisors, and a manager

Hospital-provided surgical scrubs are supplied; personal scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant

Free parking is available with a shuttle service to and from the parking structure
