Front of House Lead Wanted - Avenue Bread Lynden

With more than 10 years in our beautiful Waples Mercantile Building café, Avenue Bread loves being part of the Lynden community! Along with our 3 Bellingham locations, we’ve become a mainstay in Whatcom County over 30 years, helping create a community centered on nourishing locals and visitors alike, providing fresh artisan breads, coffee, pastries, and delicious eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We source from local purveyors whenever possible.
The Lynden location of Avenue Bread is looking for a Front of House Lead. You’ll join a 4–6-person crew that prides itself on good communication and having each other’s backs when it’s busy, and we do get busy! We step in to help one another as needed, i.e. taking/delivering orders, crafting coffees, restocking, checking back with the customers, clearing tables, etc. We won’t sugar-coat it - you’ll work up a sweat most days, but hopefully the comradery, tips, free shift meal, and positive work environment will leave you feeling rewarded at the end of the day. Management will do our best to help you succeed, as we value the relationships within our Avenue Bread team. Most importantly we work together to provide a welcoming, positive experience and nourishment for our community.

Hours: Full-time (35-40 hours per week). Thursdays thru Mondays, 9am-4pm.
Weekends Required!
Starting Wage: $20/hour + tips (approx. $7/hour)
We’re Looking For:
Previous restaurant experience required; management experience preferred.
- Barista experience is a plus but not required, we will train.
- Positive attitude and a welcoming personality!
- Strong supervisory, leadership, & communication skills.
- Awareness of the needs of others and ability to multitask is essential. Help without having to be asked. Be self-motivated. Help your co-worker out…the little things matter and leave all feeling supported and we LOVE that for everyone!
- Keeps a clean, neat work area.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to stand for 5 - 8 hours per shift.
- Familiar with POS systems.
- Food Handler & MAST permits.
- Serve Safe Certification is a plus.
Lead Responsibilities and Duties Include:
- Greet customers and guide them through our menu.
- Ensure customer satisfaction with all aspects of the café experience.
- Handle customer complaints, resolving issues in a diplomatic and courteous manner.
- Ensure compliance with alcoholic beverage regulations.
- Manage inventory and purchases food and supplies.
- Train all Front of House staff.
- Manage employee callouts for Front of House employees in the Café Manager’s absence.
- Bring all employee complaints, compliments, gossip, and concerns to the Lynden Café Manager.
- Bring immediate employee concerns or disciplinary actions to HR.
- Responsible for all aspects of the Front of House for the Lynden location.
- Monitor labor hours and phasing out employees when necessary.
- All duties assigned to counter employees as well.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Pre-bussing, constant maintenance of dining room, sidewalk seating area, & restroom, etc.
