MJ Harrington Jewelers, a trusted name in fine jewelry for over 77 years, is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Jewelry Sales Associate to join our team in downtown Newport, New Hampshire. As a longstanding cornerstone of the community, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service while helping customers celebrate life’s most meaningful moments.
Position Overview:
The Jewelry Sales Associate plays a key role in creating a welcoming and memorable in-store experience. This individual will assist customers in selecting pieces that reflect their personal style and milestones, process repair intakes, and contribute to the general day to day operations while upholding the high standards of service and professionalism that define the MJ Harrington brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a welcoming and personalized customer experience, ensuring every guest feels appreciated
- Guide customers in selecting jewelry for all occasions, from everyday pieces to significant milestones
- Cultivate long-term customer relationships through trust, professionalism, and attentive service
- Complete sales transactions and gift wrap purchases
- Process special order intakes and repair intakes, including evaluating and documenting items, as well as performing basic services such as jewelry checks and cleaning, and watch battery replacements and band adjustments
- Build and maintain strong product knowledge to confidently communicate the craftsmanship and value of each piece
- Ensure all merchandise displays are maintained in a clean, organized, and visually appealing manner, while also stocking and showcasing new inventory as it arrives
- Refresh and update window displays monthly to reflect current themes and promotions
- Perform routine store maintenance, including dusting, vacuuming, and general cleaning/stocking to ensure a polished and welcoming environment
- Collaborate with team members to support daily operations and foster a positive work environment
- Consistently uphold the standards, values, and reputation of MJ Harrington Jewelers
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and provide an engaging customer experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in typing and spelling
- Proficient in basic computer operations, including experience with email platforms, web browsers, point of sale systems, and handheld payment devices. Knowledge of The Edge and Clover appreciated but not required as training will be provided
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods throughout the workday
- Comfortable using a microscope and measuring in increments as small as millimeters, and reading fine print with accuracy
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when handling fine jewelry and customer-owned items
- Professional, positive demeanor with a dependable and proactive work ethic
- High level of integrity and a demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality, particularly regarding surprise purchases and sensitive transactions
- Genuine appreciation for fine jewelry, craftsmanship, and luxury retail environments
- Previous retail or sales experience preferred, though not required; training will be provided
