Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote comfort and independence.
- Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using appropriate medical equipment.
- Support clinical staff by preparing patients for examinations or procedures, ensuring proper positioning and comfort.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior promptly to nursing staff, especially when working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Assist with basic medical procedures such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, or phlebotomy under supervision when required.
- Practice safe manual handling techniques and utilize equipment like Hoyer lifts to ensure patient safety during transfers or repositioning.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program.
- Experience working in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, or home care environments is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with geriatric patients, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring specialized dementia or memory care.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; CPR certification is essential.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting and safe manual handling practices while maintaining patient safety standards.
