General Manager - HOA and Tennis Club Community
Palm Desert Tennis Club is seeking an experienced, service-oriented General Manager to lead day-to-day operations for a 100-unit homeowners association with an integrated tennis club facility in Palm Desert, California. This is a highly visible leadership role serving as the Board of Directors' primary operating partner and the central point of coordination among homeowners, non-resident tennis club members, staff, vendors, and the independent tennis program management team. The ideal candidate will bring strong community association experience, sound operational judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create stability, structure, and confidence during a management transition
Compensation and Schedule
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and certifications. The role is expected to be primarily on-site in Palm Desert, California, with availability for Board meetings, homeowner/member matters, and occasional evening or special meetings as needed. IRA contribution and medical benefits offered.
Position Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and oversight of HOA and club-related operations. This position supports effective Board governance, maintains high-quality homeowner and member services, supervises key vendors and on-site operations staff, and coordinates closely with the independent tennis program manager. The General Manager will be expected to ensure smooth operations, clear communications, consistent follow-through, and a professional service experience for homeowners, residents, renters, tennis members, guests, and program participants. The General Manager supervises 3 full time employees, 2 part time employees and is the liaison between the Club and the tennis & fitness program contractors.
Core Responsibilities
The General Manager will be responsible for:
· Serving as the primary liaison between the Board, homeowners, residents, staff, vendors, tennis program management, and club participants.
· Overseeing day-to-day HOA and club operations, including staff supervision, service quality, facility coordination, and operational follow-through.
· Coordinating with the tennis program manager to align scheduling, site use, communications, access, conduct expectations, and issue resolution.
· Supporting Board and committee operations, including agendas, board packets, meeting materials, minutes workflow, action-item tracking, and follow-up reporting.
· Managing homeowner and member communications, including weekly newsletters, incidental announcements, website updates, calendars, forms, governing documents, meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes.
· Supporting resident access to association information and online tools, including account balances, online payments, maintenance requests, notices, governing documents, and association forms.
· Overseeing vendor performance, contract administration, service standards, project coordination, and accountability.
· Assisting with budget implementation, monthly operating review, reserve planning coordination, and capital/project planning.
· Handling homeowner concerns, rule and compliance matters, operational complaints, and escalations in a calm, professional, and consistent manner.
· Establishing and maintaining procedures for shared-facility use, including risk controls, access coordination, scheduling, conduct expectations, and conflict resolution.
· Building and maintaining teamwork among staff to deliver a high level of service and responsiveness to homeowners, residents, members, and guests.
· Ensuring continuity, professionalism, operational discipline, and service quality across the community.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have the following experience and capabilities:
· 5+ years of leadership experience in HOA management, community association operations, club management, resort-residential operations, property management, or a closely related field.
· Demonstrated success working directly with boards of directors, homeowners, vendors, staff, and service providers.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically, and professionally.
· Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, documentation habits, and operational judgment.
· Ability to handle sensitive homeowner, resident, member, and vendor matters calmly and consistently.
· Working knowledge of California community association operations, governance practices, compliance expectations, and board support.
· Comfort working in a visible, hands-on leadership role in a community with both residential and amenity-based operations.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
· HOA or community association certification, such as CCAM, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, or comparable credential.
· Experience with amenity-rich, club-adjacent, resort-style, or active lifestyle communities.
· Experience coordinating with another on-site program manager, department head, or independent operating partner.
· Familiarity with access control, scheduling, shared-use facilities, resident/non-resident activity issues, and program coordination.
· Familiarity with Palm Desert, the Coachella Valley, or comparable Southern California community environments.
· Experience with association management software, online payment tools, maintenance request systems, website calendars, newsletters, and digital document libraries.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
