I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) will work closely with interdisciplinary care professionals to help ensure the delivery of high-quality, culturally tailored customer-owner care to customer owners from pediatric to geriatric life status. The RN will protect operations by keeping customer-owner care information confidential. This position works in the outpatient clinical setting of the Little Shell Tribe Health Clinic (LSHC) with other medical professionals in the continuum of care for American Indian (AI) customer-owners.
II. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide nursing functions including rooming customer-owners, gathering vitals and demographic information, prescription management, immunizations, basic customer-owner education, phlebotomy, and other duties as assigned by the providers or designated licensed staff in the clinic.
· Communicate professionally with providers regarding all customer-owner care and enter all notes/results into customer-owner charts.
· Prepare customer-owners for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, including but not limited to diabetic foot exams, collection of biometric data, social drivers of health (SDOH) and preventative screenings, etc.
· Log and steward all customer-owner data in electronic health record RPMS.
· Obtain blood specimens by performing venipuncture and finger sticks for routine laboratory tests.
· Teach customer-owners about the nature of illness, treatment, and general health measures. Acquaint customer-owners with resources available and assist with arrangements for follow-up care based on results of laboratory and x-ray reports and the behavioral health and wellbeing of the customer-owner.

- Adhere to all infection prevention control measures and procedures; appropriately log and report sentinel events related to staff and customer-owner safety.
- Assist providers by helping with office procedures such as wound care, etc.
- Keep exam rooms sanitized, stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.
- Provide follow-up to customer-owners with lab results, diagnoses, and other personal health information as appropriate.
- Serve on customer-owner care committees such as Infection Prevention Control, Quality Assessment/Quality Improvement, Integrated Behavioral Health, etc. to provide appropriate subject matter expertise.
- Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to customer-owners/providers/pharmacy calls.
- Facilitate customer-owner empowerment and quality of life by promoting educated, independent customer-owner choice on all aspects of care.
- Assist all customer-owners through the healthcare system by acting as a customer-owner-advocate and navigator.
- Other duties as assigned.
III. TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Must possess at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in an outpatient or inpatient setting. Experience working with an interprofessional health care team and with American Indian/Alaska Native, minority, or under-resourced communities is desired.
A. Knowledge
o Knowledge of and ability to apply professional nursing principles, practices, procedures, and techniques to outpatients with a wide variety of conditions from pediatrics to geriatrics.
o Knowledge of medical history taking techniques, physical assessment, and normal body function; disease processes, signs, symptoms, and treatment of acute minor illnesses; patho-physiology of inflammation, infection, allergic reactions, and such diseases as respiratory, gastrointestinal, dermatological, urological, and musculoskeletal conditions, normal and abnormal vital signs, and normal and abnormal neurological signs and symptoms; signs and symptoms indicative of emergent or life threatening nature
o Substantial working knowledge of maintaining an effective reporting and recording system.
B. Skills
o Skilled at analyzing problems and developing effective solutions for correction recognizing situations that indicate more significant problems and relates to senior management regarding difficult and complex issues.
C. Abilities
o Ability to communicate and interact with persons (staff, health care professionals, community) with different functions, levels of knowledge and requirements to provide optimal health care.

- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with 1 or more years’ experience in nursing.
- Requires a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
- Maintains current BLS (CPR and AED) for Healthcare Providers certification.
V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential job duties may require occasional lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds. The ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and utilize reaching, handling, fingering and feeling movements is required. The ability to hear normal conversational discussion and near and far visual clarity is required.
VI. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting or clearance as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG). Employees must pass a criminal background periodically throughout employment.
· Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, no alcohol related conviction, and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe.
VII. INDIAN PREFERENCE
The position is subject to the Little Shell Tribe’s Indian Preference Policy.
