The ideal candidate is a collaborative, organized, and enthusiastic educator who values child-led learning, fosters meaningful relationships with families, and creates a classroom where every child feels safe, loved, and inspired to learn.
Essential Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a faith-filled, positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment that supports the development of every child.
- Plan and implement a thematic curriculum aligned with the Diocese of Arlington Early Childhood Curriculum Standards and principles of developmentally appropriate practice.
- Develop and post weekly lesson plans and collaborate with the Instructional Assistant to ensure a shared understanding of daily learning objectives.
- Follow all state licensing regulations, including maintaining accurate student counts and ensuring children remain within sight and sound supervision at all times.
- Arrive promptly and be prepared to welcome students at the designated time and location each school day.
- Utilize positive, developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies that foster independence, respect, and self-regulation.
- Mentor and support the Instructional Assistant by providing guidance, professional growth opportunities, and leadership responsibilities within the classroom.
- Maintain open, professional communication with families, responding to parent inquiries within 24 hours whenever possible.
- Communicate regularly with families through classroom newsletters or electronic communication that include important dates, classroom schedules, curriculum updates, allergy alerts, and ideas for extending learning at home.
- Use technology and electronic learning tools only to enhance—not replace—hands-on, play-based learning experiences.
- Maintain awareness of student allergies, medical needs, and safety requirements at all times.
- Meet with families for conferences and additional meetings as needed to discuss student growth and development.
- Complete formal developmental assessments twice annually and maintain accurate student records.
- Prepare and compile year-end student portfolios that celebrate each child's learning and growth.
- Attend preschool and school faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and required diocesan trainings.
