Safety Reviewer – Maintenance of Traffic / Occupancy Permit
Location: Washington, DC Navy Yard Area
Schedule: Full-time onsite, approximately 8:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
Pay: $45/hour
Bonus: $500 sign-on bonus paid after 60 days, subject to eligibility requirements
Duration: Base year plus contract options (this is a 5 year contract project, so there is some stability with the project).
Selection process: Resume-based selection; no formal client interview anticipated

Position overview
We are seeking a Safety Reviewer to support a Governmental Transportation project. This position in the project will support by reviewing occupancy permits, Maintenance of Traffic plans, engineering documents, and work-zone safety requirements.
The Safety Reviewer will review and help process occupancy permit applications submitted through Online Permitting System. The position requires experience reviewing transportation, traffic control, civil construction, or right-of-way documents and the ability to identify deficiencies and provide clear permit recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Review and process occupancy permit applications submitted through TOPS.
- Help process, expedite, maintain, and recommend approval or correction of lead-line occupancy permit applications.
- Complete reviews of accurate and complete permit applications within 15 business days.
- Conduct comprehensive Maintenance of Traffic and Traffic Control Plan reviews.
- Interpret engineering drawings, utility plans, MOT/TCP plans, specifications, and other permit documents.
- Review applications for compliance with environmental commitments, pre-inspection requirements, right-of-way requirements, and safe-accommodation standards.
- Enter clear comments, deficiencies, and recommendations into TOPS.
- Confirm compliance with applicable DDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, and MUTCD standards.
- Review work against DDOT standard specifications, drawings, utility details, temporary traffic-control requirements, and work-zone management standards.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to address application deficiencies and support timely permit processing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in transportation, engineering, architecture, urban planning, or a closely related discipline; or
- At least five years of relevant experience in maintenance of traffic, traffic control, transportation permitting, roadway construction, or civil construction.
- Demonstrated transportation, civil engineering, urban planning, work-zone safety, or traffic-control background.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, utility plans, MOT plans, TCPs, or construction specifications.
- Ability to work onsite full-time in Washington, DC.
Preferred certifications but not required:
- Traffic Control Supervisor, or TCS.
- Traffic Control Design Specialist, or TCDS.
Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
