POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Truss Designer to join our in-office design team in Fort Pierce, Florida. In this role, you will be responsible for creating accurate, code-compliant structural truss designs for residential and commercial construction projects using industry-standard design software. You will work closely with our sales, production, and operations teams to deliver designs that meet customer specifications, project timelines, and engineering standards. This is an in-person, office-based position within an active truss manufacturing environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Truss Design & Engineering
- Design roof trusses, floor trusses, and structural components using industry software (e.g., MiTek, Sapphire Structure, Alpine iTruss, or similar)
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce accurate truss layouts
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, load requirements, and engineering standards (Florida Building Code, ASCE 7, etc.)
- Perform design checks and revisions based on engineer review comments or customer change requests
- Optimize truss designs for material efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability
Customer & Project Coordination
- Review project plans and customer submittals for completeness and accuracy prior to beginning design
- Communicate directly with builders, contractors, and customers to clarify design scope and project requirements
- Coordinate with the sales team on quoting, lead times, and design feasibility
- Respond to customer design revision requests in a timely and professional manner
- Track design project status and ensure on-time delivery of sealed drawings and shop tickets
Production & Internal Collaboration
- Work with the production floor team to ensure designs are manufacturable and clearly communicated via shop drawings
- Collaborate with the scheduling and administrative teams to align design output with production timelines
- Assist in resolving field issues or design conflicts that arise during or after installation
- Maintain organized and complete design files for all active and completed projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- High school diploma or GED required; degree or coursework in Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- 1–3+ years of experience in structural truss design using industry software (MiTek, Sapphire, Alpine, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of residential and/or commercial framing systems
- Familiarity with the Florida Building Code and relevant load standards
- Strong spatial reasoning and ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Preferred
- Formal training or certification through BCSI (Building Component Safety Information) or similar industry programs
- Experience designing trusses for Florida's wind and hurricane load requirements
- Knowledge of lumber species, grades, and connector plate specifications
- Exposure to structural engineering concepts and load path analysis
WORK ENVIRONMENT & SCHEDULE
- This is a full-time, in-person position located at our Fort Pierce, FL facility
- Standard hours are Monday through Friday; overtime may be required based on project demand and deadlines
- Role is primarily office-based with occasional interaction on the production floor
