Position Summary
Gateway Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional or Speech-Language Technician (SLT) to join our Speech-Language Pathology team. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to support students with disabilities in developing communication, social, and academic language skills. This position plays an important role in delivering speech-language services, implementing therapy plans, and supporting individualized education goals in accordance with each student’s IEP.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Speech-Language Pathologists in implementing individualized speech and language therapy plans.
- Provide direct or small-group support to students under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
- Prepare and organize therapy materials, data sheets, and progress documentation.
- Record and maintain accurate data on student performance and session outcomes.
- Support communication goals across educational environments (classroom, small group, individual).
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and staff to promote student success.
- Foster a supportive and positive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all school and district policies, as well as state and federal regulations related to special education.
General Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children or students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow direction and implement therapy activities designed by an SLP.
- Dependable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Availability between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Current Utah Department of Education certification as a Speech-Language Technician (SLT) or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Prior experience providing speech or special education support in a school setting.
- Familiarity with data collection, IEP processes, and assistive communication tools.
- Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorder, language impairments, learning disabilities or developmental disabilities.
