Burmese Court Interpreter –
Job Summary
Job Overview:
The Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County is seeking qualified local Burmese Interpreters for its approved roster. Interpreters will provide accurate and impartial spoken-language interpretation for limited-English-proficient (LEP) individuals in court hearings, probation interviews, detention facilities, and other authorized court events.
Key Responsibilities
Provide accurate, complete, and impartial Burmese ↔ English interpretation.
Interpret using simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation methods as required.
Provide in-person, remote video, on-demand telephonic, and scheduled telephonic interpreting.
Support LEP litigants, witnesses, victims, and others entitled to language assistance.
Maintain working knowledge of legal terminology, the U.S. judicial system, and courtroom procedures.
Preserve the speaker's meaning, tone, and register without adding, omitting, or altering information.
Maintain strict professional boundaries—no legal advice, personal opinions, advocacy, or outside business solicitation during assignments.
Provide proof of certifications, training, and relevant experience.
Maintain appropriate professional courtroom attire and conduct.
Immediately notify the Court if unable to competently perform an assignment.
Schedule & Assignment Structure
Flexible, as-needed scheduling based on Court demand.
Half-day: 4 hours.
Full-day: 8 hours.
Minimum assignment: 2 hours, with billing in 15-minute increments thereafter.
Must arrive/log in at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Assignments may be in person, by video, or by telephone.
Telephonic assignments may be either on-demand or scheduled.
Qualifications
Must be physically located in or near Maricopa County, AZ for prompt on-site availability.
Exceptional oral proficiency in English and Burmese.
Must be registered in the Arizona Court Interpreter Registry and credentialed through ACICP, as applicable.
Strong knowledge of legal terminology and judicial proceedings.
Must pass the Court's fingerprint and background check, renewed every 3 years.
Must comply with all courtroom dress, ethical, confidentiality, and professional standards.
Pay: $36.00 - $44.00 per hour
